It’s Starting to Feel A lot Like Christmas on eHow

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

Okay, maybe this post is a tad bit belated because we’ve been noticing many of the members bringing the holiday spirit over to eHow for some time– whether it be through holiday articles or just having discussions themed around the holidays on the forums.  One thing that stood out in particular, which we think is a wonderful trend, are the various holiday themed profile avatars people are putting up.  The eHow crew thought it would be fun to rally up the community members to post up their holiday avatars on a forum thread we created.  As anticipated, we got plenty of good ones to showcase on this blog.  Enjoy!

Happy holidays, everyone.

Best Wishes,

The eHow Team

“Win an eHow T-shirt” Contest Winners

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

A few weeks back we had held a mini contest, where eHow members got to submit their own favorite holiday articles and have an opportunity at winning an official eHow t-shirt.  The staff at eHow was quite ecstatic when we saw the number of submissions that came through.  We had plenty to read over the weekend and although it was quite hard to pick the winners (since many of them were really good), we finally got around to picking our top ten choices.  Below are the list of winners for eHow’s “Win an eHow T-shirt” contest:

If you weren’t in the winner’s circle, don’t get bummed out because there will be plenty of future opportunies to win some cool eHow goodies.  We appreciate all the submissions and it was quite entertaining to read all the various holiday articles the community has written.  You guys have done a great job at keeping the holiday spirit alive on eHow!

Also, don’t forget we’ve extended the holiday promotion until the 29th, so keep submitting your articles and have a chance at winning $200 or more by being featured on the eHow homepage.  Good luck, everyone.

eHow Will Be Featured at the Twiistup Event

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

With so many things going on—we are running a couple of contests for the community as well as released the “I Did This” feature, we forgot to mention something quite newsworthy. In all that excitement, we didn’t formally make a blog post on being one of the featured startups for the 5th annual Twiistup event. By being part of this rendezvous, it gives us an opportunity to showcase how eHow fits into our technologically immersed culture. And, it doesn’t hurt either to have some of the key media people and tech influencers being at the event to see what eHow is all about. We hope to make a great and lasting impression on these folks, so we can continue to spread the good word about the site. With that being said, we want to offer tremendous thanks to the community for continuously showing us support and as we go into the new year, let’s plan to keep rocking it and establish eHow as the number one How To site on the web!

In line with the Twiistup story, Mashable.com is hosting its own visitors’ poll to see which featured sites at the Twiistup is the public’s favorite. Check the link below and cast your vote for eHow:

eHow Holiday Promotion Has Been Extended!

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

If you haven’t heard yet, you will know now– eHow is extending the holiday promotion until the 29th of December.  Not only are we extending the deadline, but we are doubling the prize money.  Meaning, any featured spots that had a value of $50 is now $100, and you may recall we were giving away $100 for any featured articles on the eHow of the Day, but since we are doubling the prize money, we are now giving away $200 for that spot.  There is no limit to how many times you can be featured on the homepage, so there is always a chance you can be featured more than once.  For more details on the contest, please visit eHow’s contest forum.  Good luck to everyone!

I Did This. Did You?

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

We’ve dished out some new features on the site and one in particular will have you screaming to the world what eHow articles you’ve done in real life.  Let’s see what new toys we’ve unleashed for the eHow community to play with…

1. Convenience is key: At one point, the only way you would be able to get access to the “Top Requested How To Articles” is by going through the Community page.  We’ve made some updates and you’re now able to get suggested title ideas served up to a module that is located on the right-hand side of your profile page.  Just click on the article title and then write it.  Easy peasy.

2. By popular demand: Many of you voiced your suggestion on wanting a more lucrative list of sites to share eHow articles on.  Well, what do you know?  Today, eHow is the mailman, and we delivered.  At one point, we only had a few sites where you can bookmark and share eHow articles, but we’ve expanded…. a lot.  Now, you can share articles on sites like Digg, MySpace, Google, Facebook, Del.icio.us, Reddit, Yahoo! Buzz, and the list goes on.

3. Did you do this?  Well, if you’ve seen the article pages, you’ll notice a “I Did This” button.  Essentially, this is a great tool to tell people, which eHow articles you’ve actually done in real life.  For example, if you come across a How To article on “How to Boil an Egg,” more than likely you’ve done this, so you would click on the “I Did This” button and share this experience with the community.  You will be able to see other members who’ve participated in the same experience by looking at a module on the top right-hand corner of the article page (it will say “Members Who Did This”).  Any articles you’ve clicked the “I DId This” button on should show up under your “Projects” tab on your profile page.  Not only does this showcase the things you’ve done in your day to day life (which we like to think of as your personal “Projects”), but it also acquaints you with other community members who’ve done the same stuff as you have.

As always, we love to read your feedback.  There’s a dedicated forum post about these new features, so don’t be shy and tell us what you think!

Get a Shot at Winning an eHow T-shirt

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

The holidays are just around the corner and the staff at eHow thought it would be fun to have members post on the forums their favorite holiday article they have written.  We have created a new topic thread in the “eHow Contests” forum, so be sure to check it out and post a link to your own original holiday article as well as take the time to read other members’ articles.  We will be selecting 10 winners by the end of this week and have the results posted by early next week.  These 10 lucky winners will have boasting priviledges for having their articles picked, but will also get an OFFICIAL eHow t-shirt.  We are looking forward to reading your articles.  Good luck!

eHow Wins Mashable.com Blogger’s Choice Open Web Award!

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Hats off to the eHow community on helping eHow win the Mashable.com Blogger’s Choice Open Web Award.  eHow came in first in the “How To” category, which is fitting considering our motto is “How To Do Just About Everything.”  To some, this may not be as hot as today’s watercooler talk– Jennifer Aniston bares all for GQ magazine, but this is a pretty BIG DEAL for us.  In fact, this is even bigger news than if eHow CEO Richard Rosenblatt  bared all for GQ!  But really all jokes aside– this award was made possible by our dedicated eHow community who has helped grow our library of over 500,000 articles (and counting).  eHow hopes to recapture the glory again next year, and maybe next time around we will win Mashable.com People’s Choice Open Web Award.  We’ll also get crackin’ (no pun intended) on getting Rosenblatt on the cover of GQ.

In the Spotlight: eHow on FOX News NY

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

eHow lets you cash in on your wisdom!  That’s what FOX News NY says about the site.  eHow’s general manager, Greg Boudewijn, was interviewed by business analyst Lisa Murphy, and for a guy who doesn’t necessarily make frequent appearances on TV, he came off like a pro.  Furthermore, we can’t forget our eHow Food Expert, Bethenny Frankel, who made a brief appearance as well.  You may know her from “The Real Housewives of New York City” and “The Apprentice: Martha Stewart.”  Check the link below to watch the interview:

And, when you have the chance, check out Bethenny Frankel’s eHow profile and group:

eHow Holiday Promotion!

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

The eHow community has probably seen mentions of this promotion through various channels– on the eHow site, via email, or maybe even by word of mouth.  The deadline is getting closer, so if you haven’t submitted your articles yet, make sure you do.  Remember, the more articles you submit, the greater your chances are of being featured on the homepage.  Payments will be deposited on December 31st, and as of now, we have given away more than $1,500 in prize money.  Also, note that you can potentially make it on the homepage more than once, which will be at your advantage if you write more articles between now till 12/18/2008.  For more info on the contest, please visit the “eHow Contests” forum.

Good luck, eHow peeps! :)

LA Times Blogging About eHow Members?

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Yes, Indeed! The LA Times love our community so much that they’ve reached out to a couple of our members for some tips on saving money while shopping. eHow members, Pianistic and Jodi Jill, were interviewed and had the chance to provide their insight on smart shopping and novel gift ideas for the holidays. Apparently, their interviews made it on a paper edition of the LA Times, LA Times website, and LA Times blog. Way to go, and thanks for mentioning eHow! Check out the LA Times online article and blog post below:
